How much data does screen mirroring use?
Estimate the bitrate, the data per hour and the total for a mirroring session. Open the advanced options to see how frame rate, codec and quality change it.
Your settings
Advanced options (frame rate, codec, quality)
- Bitrate
- 4.0Mbit/s
- Per hour
- 1.8GB
- Total
- 3.6GB
That is about 30 MB per minute over a metered connection.
Want to use less?
Drop to 720p, stay at 30 fps, or switch to a newer codec like VP9 or AV1 and the data falls fast. Mirroring on your home Wi-Fi does not touch your mobile data at all.

Common questions
Does screen mirroring use my data?
On the same Wi-Fi the picture goes device to device over your local network, so it does not use your mobile data plan. It only counts when you mirror over the internet, for example over a phone hotspot.
How accurate are these numbers?
They are estimates. Real bitrate depends on how much of the screen moves: a still slideshow uses far less than fast 60 fps video.
